Teal and Yellow Wedding Shower Favors on Lost & Fawned

A few weeks ago I shared some of my plans for my sister-in-law’s wedding shower next month.  The invitations went out yesterday and everything is coming together beautifully!  Some of the specifics have changed a little, but the overall palette has remained the same.  We are using a base of yellow and teal and adding navy, green and white.  The flowers will be whatever is in season and available at the local farmer’s market that week.

Teal & Yellow Wedding Shower on Lost & Fawned

The most exciting package so far has been the favors!  Our custom candy from MY M&M’S arrived super fast and were packed on ice (just in case they had to sit on the porch for awhile).  We ordered two 4-pound bags in teal and yellow with a custom monogram featuring the happy couple’s initials.  I will admit I sampled them, and they are classic and nostalgic, everything you would expect from M&M’S.  I couldn’t be more pleased.

I have lots of extra, so I will be putting them in vintage bowls on all the tables for guests to snack on while they play a couple of shower games.  I love the color and texture they add to the “tablescape”.

M&M Wedding Shower Favors for a Summer Wedding

I ordered some really simple cello bags for super cheap and designed a 2″ round sticker (it was all really inexpensive.  For 50 bags and stickers I probably spent $15).  Putting them together was fast and easy and they make great custom favor for our shower guests to take home.

MY M&M’S offers a number of favor packaging options as well, including cello bags, lace favor bags and adorable round tins.  You could easily add a sticker or ribbon with a tag to dress them up and make them your own.

I’m getting so excited for the shower now.  I have some more really fun details to share later including decorations and food.  I even tackled the nearly-impossible task of finding non-lame shower games.  A huge thank you to MY M&M’S for letting me try out their custom favor services.  It’s been so much fun.  If you have any questions about ordering or design tips, please post a comment and I’d be happy to lend a hand.

Awesome Apps / Makr

Makr App for Easy Branding

After I posted about the shower I’m planning this summer, a few people inquired about the invitations.  So I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce this super useful ipad app.

If you are like me, you probably have an eye for design but don’t always have the time to sit in front of a computer and painstakingly design something original.  Makr is great.  It is a free ipad app that is loaded with pre-designed templates for all kinds of events and businesses.  You can edit them easily to adjust the color, fonts, design elements, images and logos and then you have the option to either have Makr print them for you, or to purchase a printable .pdf file that you can print on your home printer (for $1.99 per file).  Since this shower really crept up on us and I need to get the invites out shortly, this app really came in handy for me.

Makr App for Small BusinessesEach design set comes with a variety of coordinating elements.  Take the business set pictured above.  It includes business cards, labels, tags, reward cards, stickers, address labels and more.  All of them are perfectly coordinated and ready to customize.  It’s a great option for a new company that might not be able to invest in something custom quite yet.

Makr App for DIY Weddings

Their wedding and party sets are gorgeous.  I used one for the shower invitations and have also created a matching registry info card and favor sticker for the shower.  It took me about 30 minutes to get everything customized to my specifications and information.  All I have left to do is download the .pdf’s and print them.

They are constantly adding new design sets.  It’s a great tool to keep in your arsenal in case you are in a situation like mine.  Have you tried Makr?

Planning a Bridal Shower / with MY M&M’S

Yellow and Aqua Summer Bridal Shower Palette- Lost and FawnedI love planning parties.  I don’t have enough excuses to really go all out though.  This summer I have the honor of planning a bridal shower for my good friend and sister-in-law.  I’m planning a joint shower for the beautiful couple this summer.  We are working on nailing down a venue this week, but some of the finer details falling into place.  I’m thinking lemonade, wildflower centerpieces, a few simple games and potted flowers and herbs as prizes.

Favors can be tough.  So many favors end up in the kitchen junk drawer or in the bottom of your purse.  You really can’t go wrong with chocolate though, and M&M’s have been a classic since 1941.  MY M&M’S makes it super easy.  It was probably the easiest part of the entire planning process so far.  In about 10 minutes, I was able to select the perfect colors to coordinate with the event palette, customize them with a monogram I designed and have them ordered and on their way.

My MandM Favors for a July Bridal ShowerOnce they arrive on my doorstep from MY M&M’S, I’m planning to create a simple favor that will really show off the candy.  I ordered clear square cello bags and will seal them with a custom printed sticker.  I think they will be a perfect take-away for guests.  Any extra M&M’s will go in bowls on the tables to add some extra color and pattern.

A huge ‘thank you’ MY M&M’s for kindly letting us try their customization services.  It’s going to really help make this shower special for my dear friends.  Stay tuned for a follow-up to see how the favors turn out.

Progress // Anniversary Napkin Quilt

Scrap Quilt from Wedding Napkins

Some of you may remember the mountain of patterned napkins I sewed for our wedding with the help of my mother-in-law (if not, you can see them here).  For four years they have been sitting in a bag in the basement (after being cleaned of course).  I always planned to do something with them and I’ve finally gotten started on a rather large scale DIY project.

I’ve started cutting and sewing the napkins into quilt blocks for a twin sized quilt.  I’ll be putting the top together myself, but I’m debating on having quilted and bound professionally.  I’m learning to quilt, but I really want this one to be nice.  I’m also aiming to have this finished by our 4th wedding anniversary this August and I’m not sure I could quilt it myself in time.

I also took one block to one of my part-time jobs (at the embroidery and screenprinting shop) and stayed a little late to personalize it with our wedding date, location and our names.

I’ll of course post photos when I do get it finished.  I still have hundreds of scraps to stitch together and a lot of work.  I think it will be a lovely keepsake and a great story.  It’s certainly a better use for the napkins then letting them sit in the basement collecting dust.

Three Years

Nine years ago Jared picked me up for our first date for a picnic and hike in Hudson, Ohio.  Three years ago we said ‘I love you forever’ in front of a wonderful group of family and friends in Cannon Beach, Oregon.  Today we have come full circle and are back in Hudson, still enjoying our life together.  We’ll be celebrating quietly and modestly this year, just the two of us and dinner in our home.

Inspired: Wedding in the Roses

Roses are perfectly classic, romantic and lush.  With a family wedding at the end of the week, I’m in a weddingy (that’s not a word…) mood.  Plus I was greeted with a little red rosebud on one of our new rose bushes this morning.  So welcome to my fantasy rose garden wedding…

Treasury: i enjoy being a girl

Wouldn’t this mood board/treasury make a beautiful summer bridal shower?  Roses, chocolate marshmallows, lavender, lace and pretty feminine underthings for the bride-to-be.  I can picture the whole thing in a lovely old house or rose garden.  For more on any of the items above head over to the treasury to take a closer peek!

Featured: Emmaline Bride

Today is just my day over at Emmaline Bride!  Not only am I a featured seller in their handmade marketplace, but they also featured our wedding for their Real Weddings series!  I loved re-living our big day through their edit (they did a beautiful job laying it all out) and shared some photos I never posted here.  Be sure to check it out!

Thanks so much to Emma and the team at Emmaline Bride!  I’m so happy to be part of the community.  Looking forward to collaborating again!

Speaking of wedding photography…

My college roommate Christa Kimble is an amazing wedding photographer and the sweetest person you will ever meet. Yesterday an adorable engagement shoot she did at the Ohio State Fair was featured on Green Wedding Shoes!  It’s such a sweet session.  So much personality and such a cute couple!  Congrats Christa!  Can’t wait to see their wedding photos!
