IKEA Hell Week

Ikea Hell Week on Lost and Fawned

It begins.

Shopping at IKEA is great… until you have to put everything together.   I’m exaggerating a little.  We’ve had pretty good luck in our many purchases.  It’s actually pretty impressive how well things are packaged and in general how accurately things are at such high volume.  But every once in awhile when you least expect it, the directions will start looking like ancient hieroglyphics and nothing seems to line up right.

The rest of our furniture (including the bed and both cribs) showed up today.  We would love to put everything together slowly overt he course of a month or so.  But IKEA likes you to call within 48 hours if there are any problems with your order.  So we are going to be marathoning it.  In addition to putting together the new stuff, we also have to dissemble and move 2 other beds in the house to shuffle them around into the correct rooms.  I’m pretty useless at the moment, so my job will be fetching tools and cold beers.

The good news is the mattress is here and after some strategic pushing and pulling, we managed to get it into the attic bedroom.  I loaded it up with sheets and pillows and we spent our first night on it last night.  It’s such a major upgrade from our old mattress that it’s really going to take some getting used to.

Keep up with our progress (good and bad) on Instagram.  While I wait for Jared to need me to pass him tools, I’ll be hanging out on my phone.

  1. did you get a mattress from ikea? i would love to hear your thoughts on it, i’m thinking it over!

We ended up getting two Vyssa Vinkas: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80152872/
We figured if we were going to use them as toddler mattresses too, we might as well get a more premium mattress. The price is still way below ones we looked at elsewhere. Obviously they wont be road tested by babies until this summer, but they feel really solid and I’m pretty happy with them so far. They seem really comparable to some that we were looking at that were twice the price.

Oh! I just realized you were possibly asking about our mattress! Yes on that too!! We went in and tried them all and the Hesstun was the ultimate winner for us: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10307434/ It was in the middle of our budget and we love the feel of it. It’s SO THICK though! It definitely makes me feel like a princess since our bed is so tall now! But I’m finding it to be a drastic upgrade from our old all-foam mattress. I can sleep almost the entire night on one side without my hip getting sore. It had to be delivered though since is does not come rolled up like all-foam mattresses. But the flat rate shipping for our whole order only came out to $159, which really isn’t bad for two pallets of stuff.

  2. Ugh, putting Ikea things together is the worst! Hopefully it won’t be too terrible to assemble things!

So far so good! Jared is having enough beers for the both of us, but the bed is finished and we have been sleeping on our new mattress for a few nights! We also dissembled the old bed and have to put it back together in the guestroom. Next up is the cribs! Wish us LUCK!
