Madeline & Me

A little story from our weekend adventure. You may have already seen this photo if you follow me on instagram (@lostandfawned).

This weekend we headed down to Columbus for a wedding.  On our way out of town we made a quick stop at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream (my all time favorite) in the Short North to grab a gift for a family member.  I could see a camera through the window, but the door was unlocked and there weren’t many people inside so we headed in anyways.  First I was starstuck to see Jeni herself in the shop (who is kind of a local celebrity).  Then I noticed who she was giving a personal tour to.  It was Madeline Albright.  Super smart lady and former secretary of state.

It was kind of indicated to me by the girl behind the counter to act normal despite the camera, so I went to the register to pay for my giftcard and Ms. Albright stood right next to me to wait for her ice cream.  I made small talk to not seem awkward and she was so kind.  Even to a silly girl, probably saying silly things.  She even had her assistant snap a photo of us.  I love that she is holding a big cone of ice cream.  I shook her hand (and Jeni’s hand) and left her to her ice cream.

It was pretty cool.  Just to run into someone so legendary on a whim was a first for me.  I guess I made an appearance on the local news in Columbus as well.  Certainly a story for the grandkids.
