Lost & Fawned

Ever since I saw this post I have been obsessing with the idea of visiting Iceland.  So many diverse landscapes, from glaciers, to waterfalls and black sand beaches to hillsides so green they nearly glow.  For days I have been devouring everything thing I can find on the country.  Maybe we found our honeymoon location.  It sounds so romantic to bundle up and wander the streets of Reykjavik (I love the colorful rooftops), explore Reynisfjara Beach or bathe in the Blue Lagoon.

Iceland is a wonderful place. I went at the end of winter last March and I actually highly recommend going during this time of year. There is nothing like swimming in the Blue Lagoon while snow is falling on your head!

My Reykjavik post was featured on Freshly Pressed in March, feel free to check it out for some more information if you like.

Either way, I hope you get there sometime soon, it is absolutely amazing.

    • Love your blog coverage of the trip! So you recommend March… it’s so hard to decide on a season to visit. There seem to be so many things that are seasonally dependent and I want to see them all!

It on our list now. I saw you’re going to Peru. I’ll look forward to those posts. We are planning a trip in 2013.

Thanks! I do recommend March, or maybe even February if you are looking for an adventure. If you are thinking about it for your honeymoon location then I’m not so sure. In winter, expect vast and instant changes in weather; sunny one moment, a blizzard the next, and it will be pretty chilly. This being said, you’ll probably get to spend a romantic night outside watching the Northern Lights, and there truly is nothing like bathing in the geothermal spas in the middle of winter. Winter is also less crowded with tourists from what I hear, so a place like Blue Lagoon in the winter is not as jam-packed with tourist bodies.

However, I’ve have also found other blogs and articles about Iceland in the summer and it looks equally as amazing. Rushing waterfalls, black volcanic rock covered in green moss landscapes, and Iceberg lagoons great for picnicking. I’ll certainly be returning one summer to experience this, so I guess either way it is win-win.

I hope this helps a little!

Lindsey – we have a continuous stream of commonalities! And we’ve done it again! I’m completely 100% obsessed with Iceland, even though I have never even been there. I fell in love with the idea of going there in 2004 when my Advanced Sewing teacher told me that she went there for a summer and it was so amazing that she was planning to go back that year and live there upon her retirement! I’ve looked at so many books and read so many blogs about it…I feel like my life won’t be complete unless I walk the black sand and bathe in the blue lagoon. I don’t know when I’ll go – BUT IT WILL HAPPEN! :)
I hope you go before me (which is likely, since I have the ol’ bun in the oven!!) so that you can tell me everything and take amazing photos for me to stare at all day.
    =)

  • Totally unrelated, but I had to let you know about this. I was reading the recent issue of Real Simple, and I saw this mug that I knew you would adore: http://korin.com/Mugtail-Fawn?sc=7&category=111788 They also have a squirrel with a big bushy tail, and a couple others. SO cute.

And, so that my post won’t be completely non-sequiter, I think I tried to comment before and failed. (I might have been on my phone? Who knows.) But what I tried to say when you first posted was that Sean and I were considering Iceland as a honeymoon destination ourselves, though it’s probably more likely going to be a 5th or 10th anniversary trip. Either way, it’s undeniable how magical Iceland is!
