Lost & Fawned

Monthly Archives: February 2011

Well our first major project is finished.  It was a labor of love (emphasis on the ‘labor’ part) and I’m so happy to finally share these photos with you.  Back when we pulled up the carpet we were excited to find wood floors, but heartbroken by the abuse of the gorgeous oak.  It was dull, flat, monotone, an aged amber-red tone and covered in paint.  We were determined to bring them back to life and DIY the project.  With a lot of late nights and the help of our families (my dad in particular) we did it!

I don’t remember if I mentioned last week that we were attempting to put 3 coats of polyurethane on the floors, but that’s what happened last week.  The original plan was 2 coats, but ultimately my dad wanted to push for 3.  I told him as long as we could walk on it by Saturday he could do what he thinks is best.  Obviously there were done and dry enough in time to move in on time.  The are still curing a little and will be fully set in a few days, but I can’t wait to share them with you…

Yesterday was long and exhausting.  My in-laws all came over and had us moved in before noon.  We spent the rest of the day at the old apartment cleaning and packing some leftover things.  We have to head back today and finish up.  All our stuff is here now, but we are far from moved in.  The second floor still needs flooring, the furniture is in pieces on the first floor and all of our stuff is in piles in the basement.  I have to work the day job this week so I’ll be chipping away at everything I have to do in the afternoons and evenings.

We aren’t putting our bed back together until the second floor is finished.  So currently our mattress is on the floor.  We are also taking this opportunity to ween Logan off his crate (he loves the darn thing.  It’s like his safe, warm cave).  This morning I woke up early to take some time to myself and Logan crawled into my spot.  It was very cute.  I love my two tired boys.

Just a quick note!  Our friends at Uncommon wanted to let Lost & Fawned readers know they are having a birthday celebration this weekend!  Starting today, everything in their shop (including modern handmade clocks, coasters and other decor items) is 15% off!  The sale only lasts this weekend, so pop into Uncommon and treat yourself!

I’m going to be a busy-bee the rest of today and this weekend.  We have to totally clear out of our apartment by the 1st.  I’ll be happy to have only one home to worry about next month.  Dealing with both spaces was getting very tiring.

Jared probably won’t like me using this photo, but I don’t care.  It’s from the evening before our wedding at Ecola State Park for our welcome picnic.  I hadn’t seen him in weeks.  We both kind of look exhausted and overwhelmed but excited, much like we are this week.

I’ll keep my camera close this weekend, but no guarantee there will be a ton of good photos.  I’ll be protecting those floors with my life while they move furniture in and trying to figure out how we’re going to function on one floor.  Additionally I’ll be wrangling the dog while the doors are open and dealing with 6 inches of new snow that greeted us this morning.  Oh boy…

(Pack Up by Colour Chrome – $15)

Saturday is moving day.  Since the new house is only 5 minutes away, Jared and I have been packing up the mini every night and taking a load of small things over.  We are renting a truck Saturday to take the big stuff over.  I don’t know how it’s going to all get done.  At this point I feel like just throwing things in plastic bags, but I know that’s how things get lost or broken.  We’re short on boxes so we bought a handful of plastic bins to use as storage.

I still don’t know if this feels like it’s really happening.  In just a few days we’ll be totally severed from this apartment.  We’ll be living (sort of) in the new house.  By “sort of” I mean we’ll be sleeping on the floor of the guestroom (on a mattress of course) while we figure out the flooring on the second floor.

Speaking of floors, my dad thought it would be better if we tried to get three coats of polyurethane on the floors instead of two.  Mind you we started this on Sunday.  The third and final coat should be going down today.  It’s the satin finish, so it won’t look and feel like a basketball court anymore.  I can’t wait to see them.  The upstairs is another story entirely.

I need a vacation.  At least a day to relax.  Unfortunately I don’t have a whole day to sacrifice.  But I can spare a couple of minutes.  Need to relax too?  Take 2 minutes to do nothing and breath.  Maybe you’ll have a more productive day.

This afternoon I spent some time wearing some new prototypes to see how they look on a body.  I had nice light so I photographed them. The palette from my head is really starting to come together.  Bright, contemporary gold and metallics mixed with spring florals and summer linen.  I had to sneak a birdie in somewhere and that statement necklace seemed like the perfect place.  The brass fringe is one of my favorite pieces to wear.

librislunaria(Leontodon Taraxacum, Dandelion Print from Libris Lunaria – $12)

When I need a break from packing I find myself in front of my laptop (and in front of the space heater) looking at lovely things and killing time.  I just had to share a few fun little things I found that you might enjoy if you have a spare moment.

  • Vintage reproduction prints from Libris Lunaria.  I love the botanical and astronomy prints the most.
  • If you’re craving a taste of summer already like me, try making Peanut Butter S’mores Turnovers.
  • Learn something new!  Download some free sheet music (for personal use only of course) and park it at the piano for a couple of hours.  I think I would go with “Blackbird” by the Beatles or maybe “When She Loved Me” by Sarah McLachlan for Toy Story 2 (that song is so sad and beautiful).
  • Reminisce about the 90′s and play some old school game boy games on your computer.  It brought back some real memories to battle it out on Pokemon Blue (because blue was so much better than red!).
  • Come up with a caption and win a print at the Happy Heathen.  My entry was pretty lame, but I’ve never been good at that sort of thing.
  • A REAL waste of 1 minute and 20 seconds, but it made me laugh.  Sleepy cats with cups on their heads.  Enough said.

Good luck being productive today.  Time for me to get a move on.

Surprise!  While sanding floors and painting I had a lot of time to think about what’s next for Lost & Fawned and this week between packing boxes I finally got to work on prototyping my new line for spring & summer 2011.  So here it is!  I’ve been dying to put my massive fabric collection to work on jewelry.

What’s not to love about natural linen and black?  Very rustic, dramatic and perfect to finish off a classic day look.  Did I mention how much I’m loving this vintage curb chain with the little twist?

And some pieces from my vintage cotton collection.  I love how the color travels across the beads.

I still need to work out pricing and I’m working on other new pieces for the collection.  These and more will be available in my shop later this spring.  I will also be selling in person at a handful of local events this summer.  If you are in the Northeast Ohio area stay tuned for more info on that.

PS: I’m still offering 30% off everything currently in my shop to make room for the new line.  Take some of these piece of my hands!  Pick out something nice and use the code “FAWNED30″ on checkout to receive the discount.
