The ever fabulous Evita of the Happy Heathen and le Papillon Vert is such a genius.  Her holiday table-scapes are always gorgeous.  Her Samhain/Halloween decorations were featured on Apartment Therapy and Design*Sponge last year and I’m just dying to see what she will do this year.

So far she has offered us this preview and a marvelous budget alternative to chargers!  When I saw these beautiful paper lace place mats she whipped up it was a forehead smacking moment.  They are so simple and smart!  Chargers are so expensive, especially for something completely decorative you may only use once or twice.  These are so inexpensive, you don’t feel guilty about using them for one season.  Genius!

I can’t wait to see the whole thing come together!

Well after loosing a house we loved (probably for the better in hindsight) we took some time to rethink our needs and wants and are officially back on the hunt for our perfect first home.  We are looking closer to home here in Ohio and have a wonderful realtor who is working very hard to accommodate my pickiness discerning taste.

We are having a difficult time finding the perfect balance between antique charm that’s not totally chewed to pieces and will need to be replaced and “renovated” century homes that have been pretty much gutted and stripped of any historic architecture (seriously… people replace perfectly good antique wood floors that probably just need to be refinished with crappy faux hardwood).  Our realtor, Jean assures us the perfect home is out there for us we just need to keep looking and eliminating homes.

We are doing our best to be patient and take our time, but we are ready to plant our feet somewhere for a while.  I am still collecting bits and pieces for our future home like my door knocker.  We will have to find a wonderful door mat like this one from Karen’s Rope Work to adorn our new front step.  It would be the perfect way to ‘christen’ our first home.
