Lost & Fawned

Monthly Archives: September 2010

I just saw OK Go‘s new video for “White Knuckles” today and I was beaming the entire time.  I’m a total dog lover and I so pleased to see these amazing pooches getting the chance to show off.  Logan is in a trick class right now and teaching them to do things like this is so difficult, even for Logan’s border collie brain.  Not to mention, yet again they pull off a one shot video (like in “Here it goes again“.  No room for error).  Check out the full video below (or here).

The Pioneer Woman Cooks!

Last night Jared and I took a walk in a local nature preserve and enjoyed the cool air and observing the leaves beginning to change. It has got me in an autumn mood.

As you probably noticed, this morning’s post was by the lovely Ashley of ASH Interiors. We did a big switcheroo today and you can find a post about my favorite things for fall over here on her blog, ASH Interiors.  I have pulled together my favorite falls foods, fashions and more to get you in the autumn spirit as well (including these pumpkin spice muffins from the Pioneer Woman Cooks).  Be sure to check out Ashley’s blog and see more of baby Sullivan’s nursery and I’ll keep you posted on when she posts final photos of the completed room.

Thanks so much again Ashley for sharing with us!

Hey there!  I am Ashley, an interior designer from way down in Louisiana!  I recently met Lindsey, and am thrilled to death to be guest blogging on Lost and Fawned.  What an honor!  This blog is incredible!  My life is crazy, as I am sure many of yours are as well.  I am a commercial interior designer by day, a residential interior designer by night and weekend, a full time wife, am currently renovating our ranch home, and most importantly… drumroll… i’m pregnant!  My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in January!  As an interior designer, OF COURSE, I immediately got so excited about the nursery!  I have put together a little concept board / collage with my ideas and hope you will join me at my blog over the next few months, as this thing comes to life!

A little about us and our sense of style… My husband is an avid outdoorsman, and I as well, love being in a boat on the water, or on an adventure in the woods.  I also LOVE the big city, and am 100% in total bliss when in New York City.   I love modern interiors but I have a soft spot for a little traditional mixed in here an there, such as a fabulous fall wreath and a few fall pumpkins piled by the door.  So give me a glass and steel house, but make sure there is a hanger on the door for a wreath!  All that being said, I wanted the nursery to have a modern edge with the clean prints on the fabrics, but also to be warm and cozy.  Here ya go!

A.  Graco “Lauren” Crib – Target.  I love this crib.  It is clean and simple, gets great reviews for safety and durability, and was actually pretty easy to assemble!  I am pretty sure I got the last one because it is no longer shown on the Target website except in white.  I have the espresso finish!  I’m sure they will be getting more.  If not, I highly recommend Target cribs!  I mean, why spend $1000 on a crib when you can get one for around $200 at Target that looks just as good?

B.  The Animal Print Shop.  I may have never seen anything this cute in my entire life!  Mattie, one of my wonderfully creative friends, sent me this link and I just about fell out of my chair!  I love these prints!  The Animal Print Shop is a perfect combo of my love for art and Kyle’s love for the woods and nature.  I ordered 6 of the 8×10 prints and will probably hang them in a grid over the crib.  I am thinking about simple white frames and matting.  what do you think?

C. “In the Jungle” Moble – Land of Nod.  This is one of the cutest mobiles ever!  I am not sure if i want to pay this much for it but I love it.  Maybe I could make one similar??  If you know of any great mobiles online, please comment!

D.  “S” Intitial Wall Art – Land of Nod.  I love this!  I think this will be a great little addition to the room.

E.  Dwell Studio for Target Hippo Baby Bedding.  How cute is this??  We got it in the mail this past week, and it is even more adorable in person.

F.  Paints will be simple.  I will do a light neutral for the walls, white trim, and for a changing table, I plan on getting an old dresser from the thrift store and painting it this fabulous green color!

G.  Glider – I’m in the market for a glider!  They are so expensive!  My word!  I never dreamed they would be this high.  I may bite the bullet and order one from Pottery Barn or Serena and Lily, but they just seem to be ridiculously priced.  Any tips for me?  I think I may look into a local furniture store.  I do, however, want a fully upholstered model, in a style similar to this.  I am sure I will be napping in this chair!

H.  Cowhide Rug.  My mother in law gave me this when we moved into the house!  She said one day “if you ever want a cow rug, I have an extra in the storage room.”  WHAT??  Of COURSE I want that!  So, here it is!  They have wonderful ones at Room and Board, or if you are ever in New Mexico, you can pull over and buy one off the side of the road!

Well thank you all for reading!  I hope you will bookmark me and visit often.  I will document this whole journey, as I am doing with the rest of our renovation.  It is exhausting, but well worth it.  Hop on over to ASH Interiors and see what Lindsey is up to!  She guest blogged for me today!

XOXO,
Ashley

Well, while you are reading this (or while this is posting) I am finishing my first week on a “day job”.  It’s not glamorous or hip but it’s proved to be interesting, challenging and of course it pays the bills.  The people are nice and the uniform isn’t bad (I got to pick out a handful of shirts from the catalogs and embroider the logo on them).  I’m excited to be able to help pay the bills and have a little pocket change at the end of the day.

ANYWAYS, Halloween is just around the corner and I’m starting to think ahead in case I need to pull together a costume.  I’m thinking I’ll just purchase or make a mask like this one from Sundries & Plunder and treat myself to a pretty dress in a similar color scheme.  I can re-wear the dress and probably the mask in a few years.  Plus it could be really cute on a wall or in my office.

Here are some link for your Friday…

This cake made me have an “omg!” girly-moment.  I love sprinkles and sometimes have a soft spot in my heart for pretty shade of pink.  Plus it’s cake.  And I love cake.  Get the directions and recipe over at Dujour.

Charming, well designed and thoughtful use of color.  Do I need to say anything else?  I’ve had my eye on these adorable tea towels from Ink & Wit since I first saw them (especially the fox one).  I have this site tucked away in my bookmarks for a future (WELL in the future) nursery.

Here are some other Ink & Wit items currently on my wishlist…

I wore my hair in a side braid to work today (not nearly as pretty or perfectly disheveled as this one by Kennedy Garrett).  They are a little more special than the everyday ponytail or messy bun but just as comfortable.  They look best when you aren’t really trying and even better when your hair is windblown and a little dirty.

Hey everyone!  Just finished up my first day working a real “day job” since college.  It was actually pretty fun but I do feel a little like Logan in this picture, ready for a nap.  I’m not used to being on my feet so long and I will have to get something to strengthen my nails since I broke every one of them today (any recommendations?).  BUT the people are wonderful and the work is different and interesting.

I imagine my blogging will change however.  Right now I’ll be working half days for awhile but eventually it will be an 8:30-5:00 gig and I will have to blog in the evening.  It will certainly take some getting used to.

Have a lovely evening everyone.  I’m going to put my feet up and eat some leftover pot roast.

I’ve posted about them before but this time it’s a giveaway!  One of my new favorite bands, Her Name is Calla has offered to giveaway an MP3 sampler to a lucky Lost & Fawned reader!  I know I’m always looking for new crafting music and now is your chance to win some new tunes for your studio!  Head on over here to listen to some of their tracks or watch their beautiful video ‘Long Grass ‘ here.

Sophie (pictured above) was gracious enough to answer some of my burning questions:

I know your music inspires artists and crafters.  But what inspires your music?

Our music is inspired by our own personal battles through life, and the support of our friends and family. We make music that is both a challenge for ourselves and a real pleasure to play – and I think that mixture of difficulty and reliefis present in our songs.

What’s coming next for Her Name is Calla?

We are currently promoting our first full-length album, The Quiet Lamb, available in the US and Europe in October, and the UK in November (see www.denovali.com/hernameiscalla for more details!) and playing our label’s showcase festival in Germany in Essen in October.

What are some of your favorite online shops?

A winner will be chosen at random on Sunday, September 19th at 9 PM EST.  I will announce the winner right here shortly after.  Good luck!

I know I don’t typically post on Sundays, however due to some changes I had to make sure this reached you.

Yesterday a job kind of fell into my lap.  I have been looking very casually for something part time to help bring in a little additional income while I work on the blog and by chance some friend’s of Jared’s family were looking for someone.  So tomorrow (yes, tomorrow) I start working at a screen printing and embroidery shop.  I’m very excited, but nervous since I haven’t had a “go to work” job since I graduated.

I assure you, I will be doing my very best to maintain the blog in addition, but the next month will be interesting.  I’ll be working on figuring out my schedule and finding the right balance between a job, the blog and of course relaxing.  Expect some changes in my posting schedule, including the timing on giveaways.

I thought this print by Sommer With Ano illustrated the season and new job quite well.
