I know a lot of you are crafty, and with autumn and the holidays right around the corner I am pleased as punch to bring you this weeks giveaway! The amazingly talented Elena is best known for her stunning etsy shop Tickled Pink Knits, full of beautiful wraps, gloves, scarves, hats and other luxury knit items. Recently she had made a selection of her unique patterns available for purchase at Tickled Pink Knits Atelier! She is graciously giving away a free pattern to a lucky (and crafty) L & F reader!
As crafty as I am, knitting is one of the mediums I have yet to master. But Elena’s gorgeous patterns are certainly enticing! I asked her a few interview questions she was kind enough to answer…
You are the queen of knitting! How long have you been knitting and how did you start?
“I learned to knit as a teen and was quite serious about it for a couple of years back then. A hiatus of about 10-12 years followed, and I fell head over heels in love with knitting again about 5 years ago, and since then not a day goes by for me without needles and yarn.”
Do you have any tips or tricks for beginning knitters like myself?
“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and understand that not every stitch you make will be perfect right from the start. In knitting, practice (and lots of it) is essential! If you are just starting out, pick a smaller project that doesn’t call for too much yarn or time. Opt for a cowl or mitts instead of an oversized scarf. You will be able to see the results of your work and enjoy the finished project sooner. With time, experiment with new stitches, go beyond the basics of garter stitch and stockinette, and try a larger project.”
What are you favorite trends in knitted accessories for this autumn and winter?
“I am a fan of beautiful textures, clean lines, intricate details, and the occasional ruffle. I am also impartial to garments and accessories that have a beautiful drape and can be worn in several different ways. I am happy to see these trends in this season’s fashions. Many of this year’s popular colors are also my favorites – rich greys, soft whites and neutrals, bold warm oranges and terra cotta, and deep purples.”
