Lost & Fawned
Hey there!  I am Ashley, an interior designer from way down in Louisiana!  I recently met Lindsey, and am thrilled to death to be guest blogging on Lost and Fawned.  What an honor!  This blog is incredible!  My life is crazy, as I am sure many of yours are as well.  I am a commercial interior designer by day, a residential interior designer by night and weekend, a full time wife, am currently renovating our ranch home, and most importantly… drumroll… i’m pregnant!  My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in January!  As an interior designer, OF COURSE, I immediately got so excited about the nursery!  I have put together a little concept board / collage with my ideas and hope you will join me at my blog over the next few months, as this thing comes to life!

A little about us and our sense of style… My husband is an avid outdoorsman, and I as well, love being in a boat on the water, or on an adventure in the woods.  I also LOVE the big city, and am 100% in total bliss when in New York City.   I love modern interiors but I have a soft spot for a little traditional mixed in here an there, such as a fabulous fall wreath and a few fall pumpkins piled by the door.  So give me a glass and steel house, but make sure there is a hanger on the door for a wreath!  All that being said, I wanted the nursery to have a modern edge with the clean prints on the fabrics, but also to be warm and cozy.  Here ya go!

A.  Graco “Lauren” Crib – Target.  I love this crib.  It is clean and simple, gets great reviews for safety and durability, and was actually pretty easy to assemble!  I am pretty sure I got the last one because it is no longer shown on the Target website except in white.  I have the espresso finish!  I’m sure they will be getting more.  If not, I highly recommend Target cribs!  I mean, why spend $1000 on a crib when you can get one for around $200 at Target that looks just as good?

B.  The Animal Print Shop.  I may have never seen anything this cute in my entire life!  Mattie, one of my wonderfully creative friends, sent me this link and I just about fell out of my chair!  I love these prints!  The Animal Print Shop is a perfect combo of my love for art and Kyle’s love for the woods and nature.  I ordered 6 of the 8×10 prints and will probably hang them in a grid over the crib.  I am thinking about simple white frames and matting.  what do you think?

C. “In the Jungle” Moble – Land of Nod.  This is one of the cutest mobiles ever!  I am not sure if i want to pay this much for it but I love it.  Maybe I could make one similar??  If you know of any great mobiles online, please comment!

D.  “S” Intitial Wall Art – Land of Nod.  I love this!  I think this will be a great little addition to the room.

E.  Dwell Studio for Target Hippo Baby Bedding.  How cute is this??  We got it in the mail this past week, and it is even more adorable in person.

F.  Paints will be simple.  I will do a light neutral for the walls, white trim, and for a changing table, I plan on getting an old dresser from the thrift store and painting it this fabulous green color!

G.  Glider – I’m in the market for a glider!  They are so expensive!  My word!  I never dreamed they would be this high.  I may bite the bullet and order one from Pottery Barn or Serena and Lily, but they just seem to be ridiculously priced.  Any tips for me?  I think I may look into a local furniture store.  I do, however, want a fully upholstered model, in a style similar to this.  I am sure I will be napping in this chair!

H.  Cowhide Rug.  My mother in law gave me this when we moved into the house!  She said one day “if you ever want a cow rug, I have an extra in the storage room.”  WHAT??  Of COURSE I want that!  So, here it is!  They have wonderful ones at Room and Board, or if you are ever in New Mexico, you can pull over and buy one off the side of the road!

Well thank you all for reading!  I hope you will bookmark me and visit often.  I will document this whole journey, as I am doing with the rest of our renovation.  It is exhausting, but well worth it.  Hop on over to ASH Interiors and see what Lindsey is up to!  She guest blogged for me today!

XOXO,
Ashley

Ashley, I 100% agree with you on nursery expenditures. I just don’t see the point of blowing loads of money on a crib! They grow out of it so quickly, and there are such great, less expensive options that give you so much more flexibility on the other elements of the room — ones that may hang around a bit longer … like the glider.

I had a hard time deciding on the glider as well. We decided on a Pottery Barn one (I can’t remember the name, but it’s the most streamlined one they have — perhaps the one above) in a neutral color so that we had some flexibility. But let me tell you … I’ve maybe used it for its intended purpose 5-10 times? This is the hard thing about nurseries — you never know what kind of kid / life you’re going to have until the baby’s here. My girl was kind of “meh” about the glider, but we used the changing table all the time for baby massages. Other friends have said they could have lived without the changing table but needed their gliders to survive.

One thing life with a baby teaches you … we can plan all we want to, but we, my friend, are no longer in control!

    xx
