Lost & Fawned

I was just saying the other week that I needed some new music in my life, so I was so happy to happen upon Her Name is Calla this week.  I’ve been getting to know Sophie, their amazing violinist and not only is the music beautiful, but they seem like genuinely lovely people.

They have a mellow sound and use a huge range of instruments including drums, organ, banjo, mandolin, piano, guitar, double bass, trombotronics, harmonica, violin and shoes (yes, shoes).  The group hails from Leicester, Leeds and York.

I love their appreciation for the visual arts and their album art comes from artists and fans.  I was sold when Sophie told me about the importance of packaging when it comes to their albums.  Their last album was packaged in a wooden box.  I can’t wait to see what they have in store of their next album.

Want to know more?  I highly recommend checking out their beautiful video for “Long Grass” that they filmed in an old fort in Belgium.  You can also grab a sneak peek at a song from their new album due this October, “Pour More Oil”.

Like what you hear?  You can purchase their last album and other merchandise in their store.  The next album can be previewed here and is due out on the UK this October, and here in the states shortly after at the beginning or November.

I’m finally getting into some colors from Pantone’s Fall 2010 color forecast that are more in my typical palettes.  This gorgeous Chocolate Truffle is so rich and warm it’s almost more of a purple.  It was actually difficult to match (but with the magic of etsy, just about anything can be customized).  I didn’t completely restrict myself to the exact shade, but instead selected shades that had a similar warmth and character.

  1. Infinity Cardigan from JCrew – $89.50
  2. Ecote Tall Suede Boot from UO – $88
  3. Espresso Garland by Maisy & Alice – $22
  4. Hush by Elle Moss – $30
  5. Merino Wool Chocolate Gauntlets by While They Play – $30
  6. Bird Trivet from Terrain – $12

For tomorrow I’m working on a lovely Woodbine Green collection.  I’m super excited.
