Today is my day for the Pin it Forward project! Yesterday was Hello Stranger‘s day and today is mine!
I spent time over the last couple weeks collecting images on my pintrest board that are meaningful to me and inspire our idea of home.
See the full board here.
Jared and I have been talking about what we need and want out of our first home, so this is pretty fresh in my mind and really I could babble on forever about our list of what makes it a home for us. Instead I will cover a few of the most important things that make a place home for us.
We really love buildings with a sense of history. Original molding, a nicely worn hardwood floor, barn wood, quirky nooks and funny closets are all things that appeal to us. I love thinking about who used to live in a house, what kind of things happened there or why they made certain choices about decor.
Jared and I are always drawn to trunks, suitcases, crates, box, anything that contains. We have a growing trunk collection and are running out of places to put them. We love finding functional uses for beautiful objects and it’s something we will probably carry with us everywhere.
Our plants and animals really make a place home. Logan, the bunny and our little birdies bring so much life into our home. Right now all our herbs are carefully potted on the porch and will come with us to the next home where they will hopefully have a big garden.
I have a weakness for collecting art. I have many pieces from friends like my hydrangea prints by my old college roommate Christa Kimble. I love collecting prints and originals (when I can afford them) and finding the right way to display them. It’s something that can move with us and will continue to grow as we collect more pieces and our style and taste changes and develops.
Our style lately has started shifting to a very natural, light, comfortable place. For our next home we are gravitating toward more whites, natural woods and charcoals with pops of color in accessories ad soft goods (pillows and blankets). Fresh flowers and art will always bring color to our tables and walls.
And of course a house would never be a home without my husband. He is the only thing I NEED to make any place a home. I could live in our mini cooper on the side of the road and make it a home as long as I had him.
