Ta-Da! We have a porch herb garden.

April 21, 2010

So, here it is!  I sat on the porch for a good long while putting together our little container garden.  We now have sweet basil, thyme, oregano and rosemary growing in the little crate by the door.  It smelled so beautiful and I can’t wait to start tending and harvesting them for fresh summer meals.  I have to say I’m most excited about the basil and would love to try to make some homemade pesto.  Also steaks with fresh basil butter… perfect for summer.

I planted some lamb’s ears in another planter box just because I like them.  I’m hoping we can find some more cute containers so we can get some flowering plants out there.  We’ll see though.  Off to research organic porch gardening…

I love it! I think your planter boxes really set them off nicely too. :)

Love that container, and I’m so jealous of your herb garden…mine is now almost entirely dead after a careless housemate crushed it all with the blinds on the windowsill they were on. >:( This post totally motivated me to try to revive it though.

Hopefully I can keep it looking this good or better! I’ve had bad luck with plants in the past. Good luck with your garden revival! I hope to see pictures on your beautiful blog!

Just a note on basil: If you plan on making a pesto you’ll need more room for your basil to grow. It really needs to spread out and you need a LOT of it to make pesto. Also, make sure to clip the flowers. If you let it mature the leaves get bitter.
